Chinese Dragons
In two afternoons, 2/3R students were able to create these magnificent dragon paintings to help us celebrate Chinese New Year. Every dragon was carefully drawn by each of our class members and then beautifully painted. The result? Just stunning!
Landscape Art
These silhouette landscapes were surprisingly quick to complete – but what fantastic results! The watercolour background was completed in one session and the silhouette was added in the following session. Outstanding, 2R artists!
Waterlilies – 2014
Here are the beautiful waterlilies paintings we completed recently. View the slideshow of our work and feel yourself being transported to Monet’s garden in Giverny, France. Ah, the serenity!
Minibeast Art
This was our first attempt at using zentangles as a major element of design. First of all, we used watercolours to paint a background of leaves. When the paint was dry, we traced around the leaf shapes with black fineliner. Then, we filled in insect outlines with zentangles. The tricky part was cutting out the insect afterwards. The insect was stuck onto the background with its legs folded slightly, to give a 3D effect. It was a very long process and, as you can see, only half of the class completed their artwork. Still, it was a valuable learning experience and led to the Melbourne Cup artwork further down the page.
Melbourne Cup Art
Here are some of our finished works. They belong to (in order, left to right, top to bottom): Porsha, Vaughan, Corey, Muskaanpreet, Adam, Cruz, Ella, Gemma, Tamara, Milica, Kurt and Emerson.
This artwork took us a long time to complete. First, we began work on “zentangling” the outline image of the racehourse. The zentangling part took a few sessions to complete. Then, after looking closely at lots of different jockey silks, we sketched patterns onto the background. Next, we traced over the patterns with oil pastels and painted in between with watercolours. We quickly coloured the jockey and saddle with wax crayons. Finally, we added a thin coat of glitter glue to the jockey’s clothing. Phew! Done.
Sports Car Art
Thanks to Mr Chris on youtube, we completed a directed drawing of a sports car. We stuck it to a groovy watercoloured background with colourfully drawn wheels.
Hey Presto! Our artworks are shown below.
I like them soooooooooooooooooo much!

Great idea, Mrs W! When I get back to school after the holidays I shall check whose artwork belongs to whom (there are a few I’m not sure about) and I’ll publish the artists’ names.
